Iodine

Two thirds of our body Iodine is found in the thyroid gland since this gland controls our body metabolism and Iodine influences our thyroid.

Iodine deficiency results in slow mental reaction, gain or loss of weight, lack of energy or quickly tires. This mineral helps with dieting to burn excess fats, promotes proper growth, gives extra energy, improves our mental alertness, promotes healthy hair and mails as well as complexion and teeth.

Deficiency can also cause Goiter or Hypothyroidism. Richest sources of Iodine are sea foods because from salt water, fishes, shell fishes, and clams get their iodine and become part of their body and transferred to us when we eat these sea foods.

Iodine can also be found in vegetables that grew in iodine rich soils especially onions and garlic. Also found in citrus, especially juice of calamansi or Orange. It is advisable to use iodized salt when allergic to sea foods but deficient in iodine.

Excessive cabbage and carrots consumption can cause iodine deficiency become of a chemical in cabbage that may block the proper absorption of iodine. Cabbage is anti thyroxin making it taboo to goiter sick people. The same goes with carrots.
