Crash diet does not work if you don’t know what you are doing
Crash diet is a popular health trend among celebrities. It is so popular that people turn to crash diet just to obtain the physiques of their favorite celebrities. However, it doesn’t mean that crash diet is healthy. In fact, it is one of the unhealthiest ways to lose weight, and the easiest path to diabetes and heart disease.
Crash diet, as its name implies, is a drastic diet that disregards healthy eating patterns, and instead, relies on eating no fats, avoiding calories and carbohydrates, taking in unhealthy supplements, and mainly eating one kind of food, such as grapefruit or crackers. Crash diet, which also goes by the monicker “yo-yo diet” aims to produce rapid weight loss in a very short period of time, but (as its name suggests) fails to achieve long-term weight loss goals.
If ever you would want to lose weight, do it according to the demand of your health or body, not out of your admiration for Hollywood.
Why crash diet does not work? Let us count the reasons:
- Lack of concern for proper nutrition – Crash diets lack essential vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients that are necessary for a healthy body. A diet lacking such is not a healthy diet after all.
- Short-term weight loss – Crash diets are not effective in helping you achieve your goals. What’s more, they cannot help you maintain your weight goals. Rapid weight loss results only last a few weeks. Once you revert to your pre-crash diet, you will regain your lost weight quickly. You cannot eat only one food, eat at low calorie levels, or avoid certain foods for a long period of time.
- It slows down the body’s metabolic rate. – A low calorie diet could harm your metabolism. Calories provide your vital organs the energy needed to perform bodily functions. Without calories, how can your body do its job? With fewer calories, your body seeks to conserve every calorie for later use, which results to you burning less fuel and stop losing weight. When you’re not eating enough food, your metabolism slows down. Your body turns to your muscles for energy, causing your metabolism to slow even more. This way, crash diet delays your weight loss and results to serious health problems.
- Adverse health effects – Due to a lack of nutrients which the body needs, crash diets can lead to terrible health conditions and diseases like diabetes, heart disease, gallstones, dehydration, osteoporosis, and hair loss among others.
- Adverse psychological effects – Crash diets do not promote mental and emotional health. Crash dieters tend to feel irritable or depressed. They worry most of the time about their body appearance. They become socially withdrawn, and begin to develop an unhealthy mental personality. They also begin to suffer eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia.
- Crash diets encourage unhealthy practices. – Crash diets do not encourage you to perform physical activity, balance foods and meals, and develop a positive attitude and behavior. Instead, it requires you to skip meals. How can a crash diet be considered healthy?
Crash diet will not provide the health results you would want to last, for it disregards overall health. It will end up damaging your health in the process.
